PEDAGOGY

© Lea Lorenz

I am a professional dance teacher (Oulu University of Applied Sciences 2022) specializing in classical ballet. During my internships and after graduation I have taken on various dance teacher jobs in different cities in Finland, working with both children and adults. Teaching dance classes, holding workshops and assisting. At dance studios, theaters, a regional dance center and different elementary schools. In my thesis I researched the possibility of combining Christian counselling with choreography and dance therapy. I had the joy of finishing my studies with an international Erasmus -exchange in Spain (Conservatorio Superior de Danza de Alicante 2022).

Teaching content:

  • Classical ballet

  • Neoclassical ballet

  • Elements of contemporary dance, musical theater, acrobatics and folk dance

  • Elements of music (for example vocals and body percussion)

  • Elements of Christian soul therapy

The pedagogical approach of a teacher is never complete. It changes, renews, and forms itself along the way. One can learn a lot by testing, experimenting, observing and reflecting on things. Communication and welcoming feedback from others are one of the keys to growth. Maintaining a good sense of humor and a childlike approach is another. Authority must be earned, even if it is a role that is given to you. As a teacher I attempt to create an environment of integrity, in which everybody can safely experience, communicate and grow. Feedback should always be kind, honest and constructive. As the basis of my life is my Christian worldview, this is also reflected in my teaching.

I think that humans naturally want to learn and create. Curiosity and motivation are a powerful force. We need a balanced amount of challenge and free space to develop. I believe that every person has something outstanding and precious inside of them, that others can greatly benefit from. I encourage people to search for and develop their own mission in this world.

As a dance teacher I focus on constructing and maintaining a clean and strong foundation of dance technique. At the same time, I encourage expression, experimentation, and creativity. I urge people to enjoy the journey and to delight in themselves during the process. Dancing is about so much more than just perfect technique. It can be a way of telling stories. It can be beautiful way of interacting with others. It can be a way of keeping healthy and in shape. It can be therapeutic.
